About Us

Described by BBC Introducing Essex as “incredibly innovative and totally mesmerising, an absolute dream” as part of their Sounds of 2021; Neon Gru are an emerging six-piece alt-pop band from London with a diverse array of influences and experience. They fuse intricately woven soundscapes with unorthodox rhythms to form rich, progressive electronic productions, and a sound that defies genre boundaries.

The band members are all passionate creatives in their respective fields, having individually worked with artists like Harry Styles, Gregory Porter, Dalton Harris, Sam Garrett, Nick Mulvey and Nile Rogers. After years of chance meetings in music festival jam tents across the UK, they eventually took the jam back to the studio and emerged with their debut EP “I Am A Bird" in March 2021; a collection of jazz-infused alt-pop anthems laced with an aura of enchanting mystery and inescapable momentum.

Since then, they have released the disco-funk bop "Elon", a critical take on futurism and space travel - and "Kākāriki Avenue", a playful single reflecting on the artist’s paradox, urging you to embrace unburdened creativity. They're now looking forward to a 2024 filled with festivals, gigs and releases, with plans to continue pushing the boundaries of genre, style and modern home-recording capabilities.
